Solar City and Tesla have set the bar for the widely anticipated Solar-Storage PPA, effectively setting a new barrier for wholesale generation in sunny environments. The price: $.14 / kWh, an affordable price for Hawaii utilities where importing fuels has helped create some of the most expensive retail prices in the country, around $.33 / kWh.
The PPA gives an insight into Elon Musk’s strategy with the Gigafactory in Nevada, as his brother at SolarCity will utilize Tesla’s battery technology far beyond electric vehicles.
